The Foundation’s History

Since its inception, the Klubben’s mission to promote Norwegian and Scandinavian Heritage has been a core value. Early on this mission was realized by establishing a scholarship fund to support students learning about the Scandinavian region and language. Generous donations Klubben and community members initially established the fund and in the 1980s $5,000 was designated as a scholarship fund, with annual scholarships donated in subsequent years.  As the scholarship fund grew, the board of directors opted to create a separate entity specifically for administrating the scholarship program, and in 2000 the Norske Torske Klubben of St. Paul Foundation was established.

The Foundation’s Purpose

The purpose of the Foundation is “to provide scholarship and grant opportunities for young people to attend language and cultural camps, seminars, and other educational opportunities celebrating Scandinavian heritage.”  Contributions are tax deductible.

Scholarships

The Foundation works exclusively with the Concordia Language Villages to provide youth scholarships ranging from $300-$800 to applicants for the summer language camps in Northern Minnesota. Through contributions and a prudent investment strategy, the foundation fund has grown to over $350,000.  In 2021 the Foundation awarded scholarships to over 15 Concordia Language Village participants.
